Synopsis: “My Gender Is Black” explores how Black masculinity, sexuality, and gender are produced, policed, punished, beautified, feminized, sanctified, athleticized, seated, gifted, watched, and performed through objects, institutions, speech, silence, music, posture, and the body. The film follows in the tradition of Marlon Riggs’ “Tongues Untied,” Isaac Julien’s “Looking for Langston,” and Arthur Jafa’s “Love Is the Message, The Message Is Death.”
