When 2½-year-old Vienna Carly Savino passed away suddenly, her parents, Dr. Denise Wunderler and Dr. Michael Savino, were left with no explanation. As physicians, they had spent their careers saving lives, yet nothing prepared them for losing their own daughter to Sudden Unexplained Death in Childhood (SUDC)—a little-known tragedy that takes the lives of seemingly healthy children 1-18 years old without warning.
Determined to find answers, they turned their grief into action. Dr. Wunderler founded Team Vienna 4 SUDC Awareness, a nonprofit dedicated to raising awareness, supporting families, and funding critical research at Boston Children’s Hospital. What started as a personal mission soon became a movement. Their New Jersey community—friends, neighbors, and strangers—rallied around them, proving that even in tragedy, no family should stand alone.
